Based in Clifford, near Wetherby, the Daytones is a growing group of men who have a good time singing and socialising together.
The chorus is keen on promoting a healthy, enjoyable activity for men, whilst encouraging harmony singing in a lively barbershop style. Also high on the Daytones' agenda is supporting each other and contributing to the local community.
We have a repertoire which ranges from traditional songs through to close harmony arrangements of popular material. A ‘Lion King’ number may join an ABBA or Beatles number; a Maori love song may be on the same programme as a ‘Rock’n’Roll’ Medley; Stevie Wonder may be represented alongside something from ‘Porgy & Bess’. Don't think men in stripey jackets with straw boaters; think a group of men having a great time together and enjoying the ringing chords of modern barbershop.
The Chorus has a sub-section named SmallCo, which was formed in 2007. This group numbers between 8 and 10 Daytones' members who have chosen to learn, rehearse and perform songs more demanding than those in the regular repertoire of the chorus.
They too meet on a Tuesday and practice their songs in a session of up to an hour following a refreshment break after the main rehearsal.
New members find us easy to get to know and quick to become friends! For anyone interested in us, the best way to see what we're like is to come along and meet us informally any Tuesday morning, hear us, join us for a cuppa and see what you think. (You might like to contact us in advance in case we're singing out).
